Modern Farmhouse — Chicago is a warm, light-filled renovation designed to bring contemporary comfort into a traditional family home. This transformation blends classic American farmhouse charm with fresh, modern detailing—natural wood tones, clean lines, matte metals, and an airy palette that softens even the snowiest Midwest winter.
The brief centred around creating a welcoming, highly functional open-plan kitchen, dining, and living space, along with a beautifully organised mudroom for everyday family life. Through thoughtful joinery, sculptural lighting, and a harmonious material palette, the home now feels cohesive, bright, and effortlessly inviting.
INTERIOR DESIGN OVERVIEW
Kitchen
A spacious entertainer’s kitchen wrapped in Calacatta-style surfaces, warm timber cabinetry, open shelving, and brushed brass hardware. The large island anchors the space with generous seating, while layered lighting—pendants, sconces, and subtle ceiling spots—creates a comfortable, luminous atmosphere. Functionality meets charm through the pot filler, custom hood, and holiday-season styling touches.
Dining Area
Positioned against expansive grid windows with winter views, the dining space feels both cosy and open. Soft grey dining chairs, a warm timber table, and matte-black pendants bring a refined farmhouse character. Natural light and outdoor views soften the palette and create a calm, elegant backdrop for family meals.
Living Room
A classic farmhouse-inspired living room featuring a centrepiece shiplap fireplace, natural wood mantel, curated artwork, and soft neutral seating. The palette keeps the space serene, while thoughtful textures—linen, timber, metal—give layered comfort and warmth.
Mudroom
A highly functional family zone designed for storage, organisation, and everyday ease. Built-in cubbies, hooks, bench seating, and overhead baskets add structure without visual clutter. The light palette and timber accents echo the home’s overall softness and warmth.
