About This Project
At Bronzed Horizon, our clients dreamt of transforming an outdated, enclosed kitchen into a warm, modern space that finally matched the magic of their Burleigh Heads ocean views. The original kitchen was compact, boxed-in and completely closed off from the living area — a layout that no longer suited contemporary coastal living or the way the owners wanted to enjoy their home.
INTERIOR DESIGN OVERVIEW
Layout
The original kitchen was compact, boxed-in and completely closed off from the living area — a layout that no longer suited contemporary coastal living or the way the owners wanted to enjoy their home. Many modern Toronto apartments face similar layout challenges.
Because the apartment is inside a multi-storey building, the first step was to carefully assess which walls could be removed. Thankfully, all kitchen partitions were non-structural, giving us the freedom to open the space entirely and connect the kitchen to the living and dining zones. The transformation immediately changed the flow of the apartment — softer, brighter, more welcoming.
We developed two potential layout directions: one with subtle curves and soft lines for a more sculptural feel, and another with a clean, minimal linear look. Both options offered significantly more storage, better bench space, and a much more intuitive workflow.
INTERIOR DESIGN OVERVIEW
Kitchen
We refined every detail:
The sink remained at its original location — a strategic decision for apartment plumbing — yet its placement tucked behind the column actually creates a beautifully discreet hardworking zone.
Tall cabinetry on the right conceals all appliances and clutter: integrated fridge, internal oven tower, and appliance garage.
The hero cooking wall faces the living room with a stone splashback rising to the concealed rangehood, finishing as a floating ledge for decor and cookbooks.
The island acts as an elegant divide between cooking and entertaining — detailed with a soft natural stone benchtop and a fluted leg that elevates the feel of the entire open-plan space.
Timber planks on the ceiling warm the palette and visually expand the space, drawing the eye toward the stunning coastal outlook..
WHY THIS PROJECT WORKS
The result is a modern coastal kitchen that finally supports the clients’ everyday lifestyle — open, functional, refined, and grounded in a soft tonal palette that complements the shoreline outside.
